Greta Celeste Gerwig is an American actress, director, and writer. She was born august 4th 1983 in Sacramento, California. Greta began the path to her career in high school, where she partook in several theater productions. After graduating high school, she went to Barnard College in New York City where she majored in English. Her first big break occurred when she was cast in the 2006 Joe Swanberg mumblecore film “LOL”. Greta acted in multiple mumblecore films, following her debut in “LOL”. While acting in these films she had multiple jobs to make ends meet.

While Greta acted in a variety of films she began also began to direct films. Starting this process she partnered with Joe Swanberg to write, direct, and star in “Nights and Weekends”. Continuing on her career she acted and co-directed in a many films with multiple people, primarily Noah Baumbach her now husband. The first film Greta Gerwig solo wrote and directed was “Ladybird”. This is a 2017 indie film about a girl trying to find herself in her senior year of high school, in Sacramento. This film received fourty one major award nominations and won thirteen of them. Continuing on Greta also wrote “Little Women”, an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel which is a coming of age period drama film about the march sisters. This film was nominated for six awards and won one oscar. Last but certainly not least, Greta’s most successful and recent film she directed is “Barbie”, a coming of age film about the nostalgic children’s doll. This film was the highest grossing film in 2013, it was also nominated for eight oscars and won one.

Greta made it to the place she is due to her drive and talent. Greta found her passion for film/acting in her high school years, this allowed her to foster her talent early on and gain a true understanding of it. Greta’s expertise in acting and directing allows her to have a diverse perspective and call to her audiences better. Greta’s film’s speak on real life scenarios and issues that are prevalent such as teenage exploration and feminism. Overall Greta is able to capture a full picture that entices people in and has helped her to create a successful career for herself.
